Tracey
I knew Clark wouldnât have a problem giving me a ride home, since he owed me for the phone debacle that happened months ago. Leaving me looking like some kind of home wrecker to his now fiancé.
So yeah, he still owed me for that. Even though Lacey and I had made our peace and were pretty great friends now, Clark was still in the doghouse with me.
Another reminder of all I was going to miss here. I would miss the birth of Laceyâs baby. All the friends and loved ones that I had collected over the years would be left here wondering what happened. They wouldnât know that I left my heart here to save them, that I would think about them everyday when I was gone, and probably stalk them religiously on the web just to get a peek at how they were doing.
Leaving Candy and Dante the first time was hard enough, but watching Backridge disappear in the rearview, that would be a hundred times worse. Stacey would be pissed off and hurt by me leaving without saying goodbye. Iâd probably suffer another tit punch if I ever stepped foot back here.
The thought of my violent best friend makes me smile through the tears streaming down my face as I quickly change my clothes and grab the bag stashed under my bed. Maybe I had seen too many movies or read too many books but even if it was fiction, having a go-bag was fucking handy.
It had everything I could possibly need to start a new life. From loads of cash I stashed in there to paperwork and new identities. Quickly I packed up another small bag with enough clothes to last a week. It should be enough to last until I get where Iâm going.
After loading the bags in the car I go back in my trailer that I loved more than any mansion. Looking around I take in all the memories I had here, sighing in defeat I shut the door behind me and lock it for the last time.
When I first arrived here in Backridge I told myself not to get comfortable, because I would never know when I had to run again. Over the years though I let my guard down and let myself just live. It was a mistake that I was now paying for. Something I would make sure not to do in the next place that I landed.
I left the car running to warm up while I said my sad little goodbye to the life that I had come to love. Hell I was Tracey now, strong and fierce, but I still had to run out of town with my tail between my legs all because of one man's selfishness. Tony would never stop looking for me. I knew that, so I would keep running and hope someone decided to take him out one day just for being the bastard he is.
Pulling out of my small parking spot makes me cringe, but I just keep going, pulling out onto the highway.
